WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Ranking Member Gregory Meeks (D-NY) of the House Foreign Affairs Committee sent a joint letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick condemning the Trump Administration’s use of semiconductor export controls as negotiating leverage in trade talks with the People’s Republic of China.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, ahead of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party’s hearing titled “United We Stand: Strategies to Counter PRC Economic Coercion Against Democracies,” Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) sent two letters to senior administration officials demanding stronger action to confront the CCP’s weaponization of global critical mineral supply chains.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) held a hearing titled “United We Stand: Strategies to Counter PRC Economic Coercion Against Democracies.”  The hearing examined how the Chinese Communist Party uses economic pressure to undermine democratic governments and what the United States and its allies can do to push back.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio requesting answers about an apparent AI-generated deepfake campaign that impersonated the Secretary in outreach to high-ranking government officials. Using this incident as a warning, the letter also highlights the threat posed by the CCP’s misuse of deepfake and other generative AI technologies. 

WASHINGTON — This week, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) and Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) of the House Select Committee on China sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio urging his department to consider levying sanctions against Hong Kong Police Commissioner Joe Chow Yat-ming.

The commissioner has been a central figure in the CCP's crackdown on democracy and undermining of Hong Kong's autonomy.
