Statement from Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi on Supreme Court Ruling on TikTok Divestiture Law

January 17, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. -  Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the CCP today issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s 9-0 decision to uphold the TikTok Divestiture Law:

Today, every single Justice of the United States Supreme Court reached the same conclusion: forcing ByteDance to divest is constitutional. The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which I co-authored, was enacted by wide bipartisan majorities, following a unanimous 50-0 vote in Committee. Two successive Presidents have now sought to address the grave national security harms posed by ByteDance ownership. The Supreme Court’s unanimous judgment ensures these harms to U.S. national security will finally be resolved. ByteDance’s legal options have now been exhausted; it’s time to divest so Americans can enjoy TikTok.”
