Statement from Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi on DHS Announcement to Address Threats Posed by the People’s Republic of China
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and CCP, released the following statement regarding today’s announcement by Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during his State of the Homeland address, directing the Department of Homeland Security to conduct a 90-day Department-wide spring to assess the threats posed by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in six critical areas and how the U.S. can be best positioned to guard against future manifestations of these threats.
“Today’s announcement by Secretary Mayorkas describes a whole-of-government approach to confronting the various challenges posed to America’s national security,” said Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi. “In particular, addressing the primary sources of the deadly fentanyl crisis emanating from the People’s Republic of China will save lives, and protecting our supply chains will save American jobs. I commend the Biden Administration for their efforts to protect the American people and call on my colleagues in Congress to work together to support these important policies.”
