Select Committee Democrats Urge Commerce Department to Strengthen and Maintain U.S.-EU Technology and Trade Council
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the CCP, along with all other Democratic members of the Select Committee, sent a letter to Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick regarding recent reports that the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) seeks to end the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) and curtail its participation in export control dialogues with allies and partners.
In addition to Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi, the letter was co-signed by Reps. Shontel Brown (D-OH), André Carson (D-IN), Kathy Castor (D-FL), Ro Khanna (D-CA), Seth Moulton (D-MA), Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ), Greg Stanton (D-AZ), Haley Stevens (D-MI), Jill Tokuda (D-HI), and Ritchie Torres (D-NY).
The members write in the letter, “Dissolving the Council would not only disrupt the critical work that has been done but also signal a retreat from U.S. commitment to collaborative leadership in setting global norms for critical and emerging technologies and promoting a rules-based economic order. We strongly urge the Commerce Department to maintain and strengthen its commitment to the TTC and other mechanisms for transatlantic cooperation.”
