Ranking Member Ro Khanna's Statement on Supreme Court's IEEPA Opinion

WASHINGTON – Today Representative Ro Khanna (CA-17), Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s opinion on Trump’s IEEPA tariffs: 

“Today’s Supreme Court opinion confirms what was clear from the start: President Trump’s blanket IEEPA tariffs are unlawful, capricious, and harmful to U.S. strategic interests. These tariffs lacked a coherent strategy and were imposed without input from the public. They not only were clearly beyond the President’s statutory authority, but they drove up costs for American families, disrupted U.S. businesses and farmers, and failed to help America compete in the 21st century economy and against China.

Even more troubling, they struck at close allies and partners we need at our side to confront China’s abuses, fracturing vital coalitions and eroding U.S. credibility on the global stage.

We must craft a strategic forward-looking trade policy that strengthens American workers and industry, holds China accountable for its unfair trade practices, and leverages the collective power of our allies and partners.”
