Ranking Member Ro Khanna Welcomes Panama Ruling Against Hong Kong-Linked Port Concessions

Washington, DC — Today, Ranking Member Ro Khanna released the following statement applauding the ruling by Panama’s Supreme Court on the unconstitutionality of Panama’s port concessions to a subsidiary of Hong Kong company CK Hutchison:

“The Panama Supreme Court’s ruling is a victory not for the ‘Donroe Doctrine,’ but for the rule of law. The court ruled against a China-controlled company that for years had fleeced the Panamanian people out of hundreds of millions of dollars. President Trump’s threats toward our neighbors don’t build a more peaceful Western Hemisphere—they create the same exploitative relations that Panama has clearly rejected.”
