Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi Statement on Upcoming Votes on National Security Supplemental
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party issued the following statement regarding Saturday’s votes on the national security supplemental:
“I am pleased to see the national security supplemental package finally come to the House floor for a vote. Passing this package, and the Indo-Pacific provision in particular, is an essential step in not only supporting Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and other security partners, but also in preventing any conflict with the Chinese Communist Party. This legislation, which serves as a clear reaffirmation of American leadership and commitments to both our friends and adversaries around the world, does three things: 1.) Deters additional aggression from the CCP; 2.) Counters malign influence from our adversaries; 3.) Delivers critical humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, Ukraine, and across the world.
“The inclusion of the Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, legislation I was proud to help lead through the House last month with overwhelming bipartisan support, is a strong step in addressing the national security threats posed by apps like TikTok by establishing a mechanism for forced divestment. The extension of the initial divestment period will allow for adequate time for divestiture and is a sensible move for all parties involved.
“I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support all four bills of this package to reinforce American security and leadership on the global stage.”
