Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi Statement on Upcoming Biden-Xi Meeting

November 13, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party issued the following statement on the upcoming meeting President Biden and President Xi at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Lima, Peru.

“President Biden’s upcoming meeting with Xi Jinping will provide another opportunity for President Biden to advocate for American interests and values, as well as those of our allies and partners. As we prepare for a transition in presidential administrations, it’s essential that we not lose the ability to have constructive conversations through open lines of communication, even with our foreign adversaries, like the Chinese Communist Party. President Biden must be firm with Xi in holding his government accountable for Chinese cyberattacks on U.S. infrastructure, the continued genocide of the Uyghur people and human rights abuses against other minorities, and sowing instability in the Indo-Pacific region.”
