Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi Statement on State Department Approval of Foreign Military Sale to TECRO

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party issued the following statement regarding the approval by the U.S. State Department of a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) of a Taiwan Advanced Tactical Data Link System Upgrade Planning and related equipment for an estimated cost of $75 million.

“I’m pleased to see the approval of the sale to Taiwan of a $75 million defense package that continues to fulfill our security commitments in accordance with the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances,” said Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi. “This military sale, which would enhance communications and network security and provide infrastructure to allow the secure flow of tactical information, follows the recommendation included in our Select Committee’s bipartisan ‘Ten for Taiwan’ report to help Taiwan strengthen its cybersecurity posture. The U.S. is committed to deepening our strong partnership with Taiwan and advancing our mutual interests to promote peace, stability, and security in the Indo-Pacific region.”

The military package would include Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Cross Domain Solutions (CDS); High Assurance devices; Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers; communications equipment; requirements analysis; engineering; technical services; and other related elements of logistics and program support.
