Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi Statement On Need For An Immediate House Vote On The Bipartisan National Security Supplemental Bill

February 13, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) today issued the following statement regarding the passage of a significant national security supplemental aid package through the Senate with a bipartisan vote of 70-29:

“The bipartisan Senate vote on a comprehensive national security supplemental is a crucial step in protecting America’s global security. The House of Representatives must now take up parallel legislation that supports our allies and partners in Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific while providing essential humanitarian assistance to those in need around the world.

“By overcoming gridlock and dysfunction and passing this measure, we can reaffirm the strength of our global security and humanitarian commitments and prove that America is true to its word. Not only would this legislation provide for the defense of Ukraine and Israel while expanding humanitarian assistance to conflict areas like Gaza, but it also deters the aggression of the People’s Republic of China against our security partners in the Indo-Pacific region while helping to build their strength.

“I urge Speaker Johnson to immediately and swiftly move forward with legislation to fund the national security supplemental.”
