Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi: President Trump Must Uphold TikTok Divestiture Law to Protect National Security
WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) issued the following statement in response to ongoing negotiations over TikTok’s future:
“The TikTok Divestiture Law passed Congress on a wide bipartisan basis and was upheld 9-0 by the Supreme Court with a simple goal in mind: keeping TikTok available for its users, but removing the ability of the Chinese Communist Party to use it to inflict grave harm on our national security. To do that, the law requires the new American TikTok to have no operational relationship with CCP-controlled ByteDance. President Trump has all the leverage he needs to strike a deal that saves TikTok and complies with the law – which means making sure TikTok’s data and algorithm are truly in American hands. He needs to use it. When further details of the deal are released, this is the standard President Trump will be judged by.”
