Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi Presented with Champion of Freedom Award at ‘Toast to Freedom’ Event

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) was presented with the Champion of Freedom Award at the Toast to Freedom event, hosted by the Free Jimmy Lai Campaign. The Toast to Freedom is meant to honor the courage and resilience of the innocent people around the world who have been imprisoned by repressive regimes. During the event, Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi was presented with the Champion of Freedom Award, given to individuals who have been instrumental in efforts to support democracy in Hong Kong, defend the rule of law, and the freedom of press. 

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Free Jimmy Lai Campaign for honoring me with the Champion of Freedom Award,” said Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi. “With today marking the resumption of Jimmy Lai’s arbitrary and unfair trial in Hong Kong, we are once again reminded of the importance in not only ensuring Lai’s immediate and unconditional release, but standing up for the values of freedom and democracy in Hong Kong and across the world. I look forward to continuing to be a fierce advocate for the rule of law, freedom of press, and human rights in Hong Kong and around the world.”
