Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi on the One-Year Anniversary of the White Paper Protests in the People’s Republic of China

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) released the following statement to mark the one-year anniversary of the White Paper Protests in the People’s Republic of China:

“One year ago, Chinese citizens had enough when 10 people died in an apartment building fire due to the CCP’s draconian zero-covid policies. They held up white paper – because the CCP’s censorship did not allow them to say or write anything else. I call on the CCP to allow commemorations of the protest, release all those detained for publicly criticizing the government’s pandemic response, and halt the censorship of protest-related information on social media.”
