Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi Issues Statement Regarding TikTok Lawsuit Against U.S. Government

May 7, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) today issued the following statement regarding TikTok and parent company ByteDance suing the U.S. federal government to block the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act.

“After we introduced our bipartisan legislation, CCP-controlled ByteDance tried and failed to deceive Congress and the Executive Branch about the national security threat they and other foreign adversary-controlled platforms pose. Now, ByteDance is trying that same tactic in our courts. Unfortunately for ByteDance, the facts are on our side. The 50-0 vote our legislation received at mark-up, following a classified briefing, speaks for itself. Congress and the Executive Branch have investigated ByteDance extensively and considered all options. This is the only way to address the national security threat posed by ByteDance’s ownership of apps like TikTok. Instead of continuing its deceptive tactics, it’s time for ByteDance to start the divestment process.”
