Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi Issues Statement on the First Steel and Aspartame PRC-Based Companies Added on the UFLPA Entity List

October 2, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the addition of two entities based in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List, bringing the total entities listed to 75. Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party issued the following statement regarding today’s announcement.

“The Department of Homeland Security’s addition of two PRC-based entities to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List Act is a welcome development that marks the first time steel and aspartame companies have been sanctioned under this legislation and builds on the commitment by DHS to improve enforcement of the UFLPA.” said Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi. “Our Select Committee has prioritized effective enforcement of the UFLPA, and I’m appreciative of Secretary Mayorkas continuing to work to accomplish this important goal. By banning the import of products linked to forced labor in Xinjiang, we not only protect the integrity of global supply chains, we affirm the dignity of every human being.”

The announcement comes months after the Select Committee sent a letter to DHS urging the Department to aggressively step up enforcement of potential violations of UFLPA by goods shipped from the PRC and indirectly through third countries.
