Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi Issues Statement on Chairman Comer’s Partisan Smear Campaign Against Governor Tim Walz
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party issued the following statement on the subpoena issued by Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) as part of a baseless investigation into the Democratic candidate for Vice President.
“The subpoena issued to the Department of Homeland Security by Chairman Comer regarding Governor Tim Walz is a farce. This thinly-veiled and politically-motivated smear campaign against Governor Walz exposes a critical flaw in attacks from the right on Governor Walz’s connections to the People’s Republic of China. Having leaders in the room on our side who have lived in the PRC, speak the language, and understand the perspective of the people most affected by the CCP’s abuses of freedom is a sign of strength, not weakness. Unfortunately, some people in our country don’t seem to understand that to know your competitor is an asset, not a liability.
“Instead of lobbing baseless partisan attacks at vice presidential candidates, we should be focused on tapping into all the assets at our disposal—including people-to-people ties—to help us understand the PRC better, and ultimately, win the strategic competition with the CCP. If we are to project strength and unity on the global stage for allies and foreign adversaries alike to see, then these partisan attacks must end.”
