Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi Issues Statement on Biden Administration’s Proposed Ban on Chinese, Russian Components in Connected Vehicles
Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party issued the following statement on the announcement from the Biden Administration that would prohibit the sale or import of connected vehicles integrating specific pieces with a nexus to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) or Russia.
“I’m pleased to see the Biden-Harris Administration taking this important step to prohibit connected vehicles and technologies from the PRC from entering the United States,” said Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi. “Our committee has been sounding the alarm about our nation’s increasing vulnerability to cyberattacks and surveillance by the CCP, and the risks that connected vehicles from the PRC pose to our national security only make us more vulnerable to future threats from foreign adversaries. I look forward to continued collaboration with the Administration on how we can invest here at home in U.S.-vehicle manufacturing and technologies, such as LiDAR, while also reducing our dependencies on technologies from foreign adversaries.”
The announcement comes after the Select Committee sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin expressing concern about the national security risks posed by allowing connected vehicles equipped with People’s Republic of China (PRC) technologies to access sensitive U.S. military facilities.
