Krishnamoorthi: Trump’s Militarization of ICE and Troop Deployments into U.S. Cities Undermines America’s Credibility Against the Chinese Communist Party

October 7, 2025

WASHINGTON – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s ongoing militarization of ICE operations and his efforts to deploy U.S. troops into American cities over the objections of governors and in defiance of federal court orders:

“America’s ability to win the competition with the Chinese Communist Party depends not only on the strength of our military, but on the integrity of our democracy and the rule of law. President Trump’s decision to militarize domestic immigration enforcement and deploy U.S. troops into American cities—over the objections of governors and in defiance of court orders—is a profound misuse of our armed forces that undermines both.

Our servicemembers swear an oath to the Constitution, not to any one president. Deploying them against Americans undermines our readiness, erodes morale, and betrays the democratic values our military exists to protect. When we disregard court rulings and use troops to silence dissent, we weaken the moral authority that has long distinguished the United States from the authoritarian regimes we seek to counter.”
