Krishnamoorthi Statement on Seizure of Meth and Fentanyl Precursors from China

September 4, 2025

Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) issued the following statement regarding the recent seizures of meth precursors from China and federal indictments of Chinese fentanyl companies.

Every day the Chinese Communist Party fails to act against illicit precursor production is another day Americans die. Last year, the Select Committee released a bipartisan investigation into the CCP’s role in the fentanyl crisis, which proved that the PRC could stop the leading cause of death among Americans aged 18-45 if they tried,” said Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi. “Now, with the U.S. government’s seizure of 300,000 kilos of meth precursors from China and indictments of additional Chinese fentanyl companies – we are reminded of the importance of acting on the investigation’s findings and addressing China’s role in the production of other illicit narcotics. The CCP must treat this crisis with the urgency it demands.”
