Krishnamoorthi Responds to Reported Briefing of Elon Musk on U.S. Military Plans for Responding to War with China

March 21, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party issued the following statement regarding Thursday night's report from the New York Times about Elon Musk receiving a briefing on Friday at the Pentagon regarding the U.S. military's plan for any war or conflict that might occur with China.

“I am deeply concerned by the report that Elon Musk may receive briefings on top secret U.S. military plans related to a potential conflict with the Chinese Communist Party. Given his enormous business interests in the People’s Republic of China and allegations that he has already failed to comply with protocols for protecting our nation’s secrets, such access raises serious questions about his conflicts of interest and the risks they pose to our security. Our country’s most sensitive intelligence and strategic materials must be safeguarded, and our military policies must be guided by American values and interests—not by the preferences of private individuals whose personal interests could compromise our nation’s security.”
