Krishnamoorthi Responds to China Tariff Pause
WASHINGTON – In response to this Administration’s temporary suspension of certain tariffs on Chinese goods, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party issued the following statement:
“By offering a temporary reprieve from blanket tariffs, the Administration opens the door to a critically important dialogue with the People’s Republic of China (PRC). At the same time, the Administration must end its yo-yo tariff policy. This erratic approach is creating chaos and uncertainty for American businesses, stymying long-term investment and hiring at a time when economic stability is essential.
In our negotiations, we must not fail to secure meaningful concessions from the PRC that ease the strain on family budgets, safeguard American industry, protect jobs, promote innovation, and curb some of the Chinese Communist Party’s most egregious behaviors. Any deal struck with China must center on and promote American values. I encourage the Administration to engage with workers, industry, civil society, and Congress in establishing clear and consistent negotiation objectives that will bind its discussions with Beijing.”
