Krishnamoorthi Hails U.S.-Australia Alliance as ‘Ironclad’ Amid Rising CCP Threats
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), issued the following statement on Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s visit to the United States:
“Prime Minister Albanese’s visit to Washington proves once again that the United States and Australia stand hand-in-hand as ironclad allies. In the face of increasing CCP aggression around the world, Australia is a vital partner in our shared efforts to boost Indo-Pacific deterrence, diversify critical mineral supply chains, and promote democracy and human rights above authoritarianism. By increasing Australia’s ability to prevent conflict around Taiwan and the South China Sea through AUKUS and by investing in critical mineral supply chain security, we stand stronger in the face of CCP military, economic, and ideological coercion.”
In February of this year, the People’s Liberation Army conducted unprecedented live-fire exercises within Australia’s eastern Exclusive Economic Zone. Beijing has weaponized Australian exports like barley, beef, and wine to punish Canberra for protecting its national security and criticizing the CCP’s human rights record.
