Krishnamoorthi, Gallagher Call on Department of Defense to Prohibit Vehicles Equipped with PRC Technologies from Accessing U.S. Military Sites
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) and Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin expressing concern about the national security risks posed by allowing connected vehicles equipped with People’s Republic of China (PRC) technologies to access sensitive U.S. military facilities. In the letter, the Ranking Member and Chairman also called on Secretary Austin to prohibit such vehicles from accessing sensitive U.S. military bases and facilities.
The Select Committee wrote a letter in November 2023 calling for an investigation into PRC Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) companies that could pose data security and national security risks. Under the PRC’s National Security Law, all PRC LiDAR companies must provide any available data collected by their products and systems to the CCP, when required.
