Krishnamoorthi Condemns PRC Consul General’s Threat Against Japan Prime Minister Takaichi

November 14, 2025

WASHINGTON – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), issued the following statement in response to a highly offensive social media post by Xue Jian, the People’s Republic of China’s Consul General in Osaka, Japan.

“I condemn in the strongest terms Consul General Xue’s outrageous, inappropriate, and vicious threat to ‘cut off that dirty neck’ of our ally Japan and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, which appeared to respond to Prime Minister Takaichi’s assertion that a PRC military attack on Taiwan could allow Japan to exercise its right to self-defense.

Japan’s sovereign choices in reaction to the PRC’s military aggression are Japan’s alone to make. Comments like those issued by Consul General Xue only make the case for standing up to Beijing clearer for Tokyo and the world.

Rather than stoking instability and confrontation, the PRC should immediately denounce Consul General Xue’s remarks and respect the sovereignty of its neighbors. The Select Committee stands firmly behind Japan and Taiwan against threats and violence from the PRC."
