Krishnamoorthi Calls Attention to Impact of Reconciliation Negotiations on Competition with the CCP

April 30, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the CCP issued the following statement regarding negotiations around a reconciliation package in Congress.

“As Congress crafts the reconciliation package, I urge my colleagues to focus on both the immediate and long-term stakes in our strategic competition with the Chinese Communist Party. The CCP is rapidly expanding its authoritarian influence, advancing in AI, distorting global markets, and ramping up military aggression in the Indo-Pacific. Slashing American soft power, gutting foreign assistance, and undercutting critical investments in innovation, education, and our people isn’t just shortsighted—it’s reckless. These are the very tools we need to outcompete the CCP, and secure our future as a country. Weakening them now hands the CCP an easy win. We must double down on U.S. global leadership and resilience—not retreat and open up a vacuum for the CCP to fill.”
