Following Select Committee Efforts, Krishnamoorthi Applauds Decision to Withhold Funding from World Anti-Doping Agency
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement after the Biden Administration withheld funding from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in response to WADA’s repeated efforts to shield the PRC from accountability for positive tests of performance enhancing drugs in international sports competitions.
“Fair competition is a cardinal principal of international sports. Every athlete deserves a fair shot at victory, and with this announcement, the Biden Administration took a bold step to hold WADA accountable for seemingly favoring the CCP’s interests over fair play. In Congress, I will continue leading the charge to make sure American Olympians have a level playing field.”
Last year, Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi co-authored the Restoring Confidence in the World Anti-Doping Agency Act, which permanently allows the Office of National Security Drug Control Policy to withhold up to the full amount of membership dues to the WADA if it fails to operate fairly and independently. Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi also sent a letter to the Department of Justice requesting an investigation into WADA’s decision to allow PRC swimmers to participate in the 2021 Olympics after testing positive for illegal substances.
